Aloha Portland! Aletha is thrilled to collaborate with The Portland Cookshop for this one-night-only event featuring our most popular Kauai Cooking Class!

This hands-on class showcases the historical and cultural significance of 4 much-loved dishes served at our local, mom-and-pop stores.

What to expect:
- Class includes all ingredients, recipes, tools, and instructions.
- Instruction via some demos and plenty of hands-on cooking.
- Our recipes will include rice, raw fish, soy, and vegetables. Please inquire before registering if you are unsure if this class will be a good match for your dietary needs.
- Plenty of sampling, plus recipes to take home.
- Wine, beer, and kombucha are available for purchase during class.

Aletha Thomas is a passionate culinary artist and educator living her dream on the lush island of Kauai. Originally from Southwest Portland, Aletha found her heart’s home in Hawaii after earning her Education degree from Walla Walla University. Nearly three decades later, she and her family continue to embrace a life rooted in seasonal abundance, spending most of the year on Kauai and a few cherished months in the Pacific Northwest.
As a Master Food Preserver and farm-to-table advocate, Aletha is dedicated to honoring the flavors of both regions she calls home. Her cooking style is a vibrant fusion of Pacific Northwest freshness and tropical island flair, always centered around the best local ingredients. Whether she’s teaching a class, preserving a harvest, or preparing a meal for loved ones, Aletha brings warmth, creativity, and a deep respect for food traditions to everything she does.
Through her culinary workshops and community events, Aletha shares her love for sustainable living, cultural connection, and the joy of cooking with intention. Her mission is simple: to inspire others to savor the moment, celebrate local bounty, and nourish both body and soul.
