Just in time for the cozy season!

Join guest baker, Angie McReaken for this hands-on class teaching the science, art, and techniques needed to create beautiful loaves of sourdough bread. We will begin with starters, how to get them up and running, feeding them, and putting them to bed, just to bring them back again. Next, how to make your dough, and what to look for during the process of rising, kneading, and rising again. Finally, Angie will demonstrate how to form a perfect loaf, scoring techniques, and tips for a perfect crust.

We will sample Angie's favorite sourdough breads topped with Monkeypod Jam spreads and everyone will leave with a loaf and a starter.

Age Requirement: 16 years or older (Youth ages 16-17 must be accompanied by a registered adult)

Location: Lawai. The exact location is shared in the confirmation email after registering.

Kalaheo resident, Angie McReaken has called Kauai home for over three years. Angie grew up as far as one can get from the Hawaiian Islands, New Jersey. Thanks to her mother's small bread-making business, many of her fondest childhood memories include the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked bread. Her mother's passion for baking inspired Angie along with her two daughters to dive into the wonderful world of bread-making. During their high school years, her girls made and sold their own bread, turning a fun activity into an entrepreneurial adventure. Now that they are grown and on their own, Angie continues the tradition, baking for joy and sharing her creations with friends and family. A few years back, a dear friend taught Angie the art and science of sourdough. Since then, she has learned so much about not only different sourdough techniques but the nutritional benefits. Recently, she started teaching friends and her church family how to make their own loaves of sourdough, using her tried-and-true recipes and techniques. When Angie's not in the kitchen, she loves spending time outside, enjoying the tranquility of hiking the mountains or surfing the refreshing ocean waves.
